Sexual violence refers to sexual acts where consent is not obtained or freely given. Any person, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity can experience sexual violence. Perpetrators may be strangers, but more frequently they are someone known to the victim. Acts of sexual violence may occur regardless of the relationship between the victim and perpetrator.
