Public Notice's
There have been some questions regarding the correct procedure for calling the Campus Police or the County Fire/Emergency Medical Services in the time of an emergency. Here is the recommended procedure:
Police Emergency: Call 487-4210. Dial the 941 area code if necessary. For example if you have a cell phone from a different area code then you would need to dial 941-487-4210. Calling 911 may delay our response time as the 911 center will then call us to send an officer.
Fire/Emergency Medical Services: Call 911. This is the quickest way to get help. Land based calls to the 911 center where the Fire and Emergency Medical Services are dispatched from show up on Campus Police computers so we know when a 911 call is made. Calls from cell phones will not show up. Calling Campus Police first may delay the response and precious time. After you call 911, call us next at 487-4210 to make sure we are on our on our way.
If you are confused or revert to what you have always been taught go ahead and dial 911 for ANY emergency. In certain cases this may delay our response time a little but you can be assured help is on its way.
Please feel free to contact the Campus Police or me directly with any questions you may have. We would be happy to answer any questions!
