Beyond the standard duties of an accredited police department, The New College of Florida Police Department offers several services for the campus community.
Safety Escorts:
Don't walk alone at night! NCFPD offers vehicle escorts to and from all points on campus. Just pick up a blue emergency phone or call the NCFPD at (941) 487-4210 and an officer will respond to you as soon as possible.
Vehicle Jump Starts:
NCFPD is equipped with a Battery Charger. If you find yourself on campus and in need of a jump start, pick up the nearest Emergency Blue Phone or call (941) 487-4210 and give the dispatcher your name, vehicle description, and location. As soon as a police officer is free, they'll be happy to assist you. You will be asked to sign a waiver of liability (see bottom of this page) before any action is taken. Without this waiver, no jump start or unlocking of your vehicle can be attempted by NCFPD.
Vehicle Lock Outs:
NCFPD is equipped with a vehicle unlocking kit. If you find yourself on campus and in need of this service (even the brightest of us lock our keys in our car on occasion), pick up the nearest Emergency Blue Phone or call (941) 487-4210 and give the dispatcher your name, vehicle description, and location. As soon as a police officer is free, they'll be happy to assist you. You will be asked to sign a waiver of liability (see bottom of page) before any action is taken. Without this waiver, no jump start or unlocking of your vehicle can be attempted by NCFPD. Note: Vehicles with power locks or windows are extremely difficult to unlock with the kit. There is a lot more wiring inside the door panel, and thus a greater risk that expensive damage will be done during the unlocking process. NCFPD strongly suggests finding an alternative solution, such as calling AAA or retrieving a spare key, if at all possible.
Lost and Found:
NCFPD houses a campus-wide lost and found. We always have an abundance of keys, eyeglasses, and ID cards in our lost and found. As soon as you realize you are missing something, give us a call or stop by.
Key Sign-Out:
Keys to various campus facilities are available for sign-out at NCFPD. Some of these keys, such as those to the Mac Lab or Pub Office, are available to any student, faculty, or staff member with a valid New College ID card. Others are restricted to a sign-out list, determined by the administrator of that particular key. All those signing out a key must leave a valid New College student, staff, or faculty ID card, which will be returned to the owner upon return of the key. No driver's licenses will by accepted - No Exceptions! Upon signing for the key, you are taking full responsibility for the corresponding facility. No key may be checked out overnight or taken off campus.
Lost Key Return Tags:
A FREE SERVICE!! Come over to NCFPD, fill out a card with your name and contact information, and we'll give you a tag to put on your key chain. If you ever lose your keys, the tag instructs anyone who finds them to send them to NCFPD office. From there, we will contact you and arrange the return of your keys. Does it get any easier than that?
Personal Alarm Device:
NCFPD currently has 2 Quorum Personal Alarm devices available for sign-out. These alarms are small, light-weight devices that emit a loud, high-pitched "scream" with the pull of a pin. Simply come into NCFPD office and leave your USF or New College ID to sign one out.
Lock-Outs:
Faculty and Staff - NCFPD offers after-hours assistance with office lock-outs. Students - Mon-Fri during the day, you should call the housing office at (941) 487-4259 if you find yourself locked out of your dorm room. After hours, you should call the on-duty RA at 780-8441.
Engraving:
Protect your valuables: engraving them with your driver's license number! How can this help, you ask? Should something of value to you (bicycle, television, stereo equipment, computer, etc.) ever be stolen, there is a much higher likelihood you will get your belongings back if they are recovered. An engraving device is available at NCFPD free of charge. You can either check it out and do it yourself, or make arrangements of have a police officer assist you.
